The former Addicted performer and grime MC Stormzy had an unforgettable night at the 2018 Brit Awards!
Beating Ed Sheeran to the top spot and taking home not only the British Album of the Year for his acclaimed debut Gang Signs & Prayer, but the British Male Solo Artist Award as well.
Following a stunning performance of Blinded By Your Grace, Stormzy boldly broke out into a politically-fuelled freestyle where he lashed out at Theresa May for the way she responded to the tower block fire at Grenfell last year.
“Like yo Theresa May where’s the money for Grenfell?” he spat, adding: ”What you thought we just forgot about Grenfell?”
Apparently by Thursday morning the government had tried to address Stormzy’s powerful performance, reiterating that they had supposedly committed over £58m to the recovery and admitting their initial response was too slow…
But enough about about politics!
Stormzy wasn’t the only past Addicted Artist to get recognised at the Brit Awards this year. Fellow grime artist J HUS was nominated for not one, not two, but THREE BRITS this year.
Making it on to the short list for British Album of the Year, British Single & British Breakthrough Act.
J HUS released ‘Common Sense’ in May 2017…to be nominated alongside artists like Ed Sheeran, Dua Liper, Rag’n’Bone Man & Calvin Harris just goes to show the success and recognition of his debut album so far.
Jax Jones was another to break his way into the Brits this year.
His collaboration with Raye on the track ‘You Don’t Know Me’ smashed its way to the top of the charts and was an international summer anthem that landed him firmly on the British Single shortlist.
Its save to say the Addicted line up secures not only recognised but rising artists year in year out! You can catch all of their live performances on the Holiday Box Office YouTube Channel…Or just head there yourself this summer and experience it first hand!
