I have
worked in the computer industry for nearly 30 years
following a college education and apprenticeship in
electronics and computer engineering. Much of this time
was spent in a support role, solving the more complex
system problems and sometimes running special projects
or training staff and customers. More recently I moved
into a project management role for a mobile
communication systems supplier. This role encompassed
system design, specification, testing, installation,
training and troubleshooting – almost everything except
the actual programming. Technologies used included Web
browser applications, databases and mobile phone
equipped hand-held terminals.
In the
middle of my career, I took a break and setup my own
business. A fitted kitchen showroom, selling, designing
and installing kitchens from a range of quality German
manufactured kitchen units and appliances. Here I
learned all aspects of running a small business and
employing sub-contract building workers.
I have a
HND in Electrical and Electronic Engineering and a BSC
Degree.
SUSAN
My early
career was in shipping and banking but after raising my
children I started working in retail. I gained
experience in big retail stores including Debenhams,
Allders, House of Fraser and Harrods. I have also run
my own retail business for 9 years. With this knowledge
I started working for a smaller sports chain who wanted
someone who had the knowledge of big department store
procedure. After managing their largest store for two
years I progressed to running and expanding their
schools and club business, here I was working very much
from home with the computer, plus visiting schools and
clubs. I produced a loyalty card (much the same as
supermarket loyalty cards) for our schools, football,
cricket, tennis and other sports clubs and gyms. I also
produced newsletters, flyers, certificates, vouchers,
advertising material, and started a web site. I have
experience with heat press and embroidery, emblems and
logo’s, and have helped design logo’s and advise
customers.
I have
qualifications in web site design and a HNC in business
and finance management.
